How to check and pay camera fines and penalty points in Cyprus (2026)

Guides

A fine notice, a phone and car keys on a café table, with a parked white car on the village street behind

A traffic camera or a police officer has caught you, or you are not sure whether they have. This guide shows you how to check for camera fines on the official Cyprus camera system website, how to pay a fine online, which deadlines matter, and how to find out how many penalty points you have.

Last checked: 19 October 2026, against the out-of-court settlement law (47(I)/1997), the traffic cameras law (55(I)/2001) and the penalty points section of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Law on CyLaw, the gov.cy payment and warrant services, and cycamerasystem.com.cy. For the amount of each fine, see our guide to traffic fines and penalty points.

How do I check if I have a camera fine in Cyprus?

Use the official camera fines website, cycamerasystem.com.cy, often searched as "CY camera system". It works in English and Greek and is free. You can check in two ways.

Without a notice: search for pending fines. Open "Search for pending Citations" and enter:

  1. how the car's owner is identified: Cypriot ID, ARC number, passport, foreign ID or company registration number,
  2. that ID number,
  3. the car's registration number.

The result lists any pending fines with the citation number and the date and time of the offence. Use the owner's details, which are not always the driver's.

With a notice: log in. Your paper notice shows an incident number and an access code. Enter both under "Login" to see the case.

The website does not take payments. If you have questions about a camera case, the helpline is 8000 8009, from 08:00 to 17:00.

How camera fines reach you

  • By registered post or in person. The notice goes to the car's registered owner within 180 days of the offence. For camera fines, the deadlines count from the day you receive the notice. Refusing the letter does not help: the law then treats it as delivered.
  • Someone else was driving. The owner must name the driver in writing within 15 days of receiving the notice. The driver then gets their own notice.
  • Rental cars. The renter on the contract is treated as the driver, and the rental company passes on their details.
  • No SMS or email yet. A bill to send notices by SMS and email as well as by post had not reached Parliament by October 2026.

How to pay a traffic fine online

  1. Open the gov.cy service "Πληρωμή εξωδίκων προστίμων" (payment of out-of-court fines) and press Start.
  2. It takes you to JCC Smart. Register or log in.
  3. Enter the details from your notice and pay by card.

Other ways to pay. The law also lets you pay police fines at commercial banks and cooperative credit institutions that work with the state's payment provider. A parking ticket from a municipal traffic warden is paid to the municipality.

Fines with penalty points. Paying is only half of it. You must also sign a declaration accepting the points within the same deadline, or the case can still go to court. The notice explains how.

Deadlines: 90 days, then a 50% surcharge

Count from the day the notice was served on you:

Time since you got the noticeWhat happens
Up to 90 daysPay the amount on the notice
After 90 daysThe fine rises by half (50%)
After 105 daysThe police can take you to court

These deadlines apply to traffic fines since 2025. Before that they were shorter, so older articles quote different numbers.

There is no early-payment discount. The 50% you may see online is the surcharge for paying late, not a reduction.

What happens if you don't pay a fine?

  • Court. After 105 days the police can prosecute you. A court can give a higher penalty than the out-of-court fine.
  • Fine warrants. If a court fine stays unpaid, a warrant can be issued. To check whether there is a warrant against you, use the gov.cy service "Ενημέρωση για τυχόν εκκρεμούντα εντάλματα προστίμου", which takes you to the police warrant search on JCC Smart.
  • Points. A fine that carries points still adds them, whether you settle it out of court or a court convicts you.

How many penalty points do I have?

Ask the police. As of October 2026 there is no online check, so visit a police station with your ID card and ask for your points. An online points check through CY Login has been reported as in testing. When it launches, it will be on gov.cy.

The main rules:

  • 16 points within 2 years means the court can disqualify you for up to 6 months, or up to 12 months if you were disqualified in the last 5 years.
  • Each point expires 2 years after it was given.
  • At 16 points there is no out-of-court fine. A new offence that takes you to 16 or more goes straight to court.
  • Points courses. The Driving Licence Law lets a driver with 10 or more points apply for a specialised course that removes some points, for a fee, once every two years. A driver who reaches 12 points and then 12 more within a year must take a course.

Speed cameras in Cyprus

Cyprus has fixed cameras at junctions and on main roads, and the police also use mobile cameras. A vehicle with a mobile speed camera must show a roof light, and the police may publish the general areas where mobile cameras will work each day. Cameras record speeding, red lights and other offences that are clear in the photo, such as a phone in your hand or no seat belt.

A speeding fine is €2 for every km/h over the limit, up to 30% over, with 1 point, and rises from there. Our guide to speed and alcohol limits has every limit.

Learners and new drivers

  • Same points, same limit. The 16-point rule applies to everyone. There is no lower limit for learners or new drivers.
  • Lower alcohol limit. Learners and drivers in their first three years have a much lower alcohol limit.
  • Learner rules. Driving without your learner sign or without an accompanying driver are offences too. Our guide to the learner licence explains the rules.

The cheapest fine is the one you never get. Know your signs with the free road signs test and check the rules with the rules test.
