Why you need reminders
The Road Transport Department (RTD) does not send reminders, so it is easy to miss a date:
- You have 70 days after your road tax expires to renew without a surcharge. After that, the late fee is €10 plus 10% of the tax due.
- To renew road tax you need valid insurance and, if the car needs one, a valid MOT.
- Driving without a valid MOT costs €150 for a car, and its road tax counts as suspended until it has one.
What we send and when
One email for each date you add:
- Road tax: 7 days before it expires, so you can get your insurance and MOT ready; on the day it expires; 30 days before the late fee starts; and in the last week before it starts.
- MOT: 30 days and 7 days before it is due.
- Insurance: 30 days and 7 days before it renews.
Every email links only to the official RTD portal and our guides, and has a link to change your dates or unsubscribe.

We ask for your email and your dates, nothing else:
- No plate number and no ID number.
- Unsubscribe in one click from any email, and we delete your reminders.
- The reminders are free, and we never ask you to pay.
Road tax and MOT reminder questions
Does the RTD send road tax reminders in Cyprus?
No. The Road Transport Department does not send reminders, so you have to note the expiry date yourself. This service emails you before each date instead.
How long do I have to renew road tax in Cyprus?
By law you have 70 days after your road tax expires to renew without a surcharge. After that, the late fee is €10 plus 10% of the tax due.
What is the fine for no MOT in Cyprus?
€150 for a car, with no penalty points. Without a valid MOT, the car's road tax also counts as suspended.
When is my first MOT due?
Four years after the car was first registered, then every two years. If you don't know your MOT date, enter the first registration date and we work it out.
What data do you keep?
Your email address, the dates you enter and an optional car name. We don't ask for your plate number or ID number. Unsubscribe from any email and we delete your reminders.
Does it cost anything?
No, the reminders are free. We never ask you to pay, and our emails link only to the official RTD portal and our own guides.
Can I add more than one car?
Yes, up to 3 cars with one email address.
